Why do some dogs drool so much? This could be due to a variety of reasons. A broken tooth, infection or other dental problem could cause this behavior. It may have infected gums or an allergic reaction to food. Sometimes, drooling is caused by nausea or over excitement. Do not be alarmed at your dog's drooling. Some breeds drool naturally. Their loose skin around the jaws is what causes them to drool. Their saliva is able to escape easier than other breeds. Saint Bernards are famous for their tendency to drool.
To prevent your house becoming a complete disaster. As in the movie Beethoven. Keep a piece or cloth handy so that you can clean the dog's mouth as needed. You might also want to give your dog chew toys. Dogs that chew more often will swallow less and drool more.
As we mentioned, there are many other factors that can cause drowsiness. You may also experience drowsiness from other, not so benign factors. Most commonly there is a problem with the dogs teeth. You could have a small splinter in your dog's teeth, or if the dog has been chewing on an old wooden stick. If that's the case, You should normally be able to easily locate and remove the foreign object from the dogs mouth. You may also suspect that your dog has a damaged tooth or a cavity. The dog may not have been able to tell you when the tooth broke, as they don't often speak about their pain. Some signs to look out for are yelping when catching or picking up objects. Eating can also cause pain if the dog has a dental problem. The dog may be slower to eat or may stop chewing.
