Troy grew up on a farm in Iowa, went off to the city to get a degree, and has made a living working with or developing open-source software since 1998.

My retirement plan involves owning farmland and wind turbines.

I want to be able to work the farmland using open-source-hardware farm equipment, in which I have the full ability to change the design, in the form that the engineers who designed it used. This means open-source CAD programs running on an operating system that meets the Debian Free Software guidelines, and that boots from an open-source bios
