come from wind and solar. Having first turned the sod on the sight in October 2012, Trustpower officially opened the $439 million 270MW Snowtown II wind farm on Sunday with speech from SA Premier Jay Weatherill and a community event celebrating the occasion. Located 170km north of Adelaide on the Barunga and Hummock Ranges, the new installment is situated adjacent to Snowtown I, which has been one of mainland Australia’s best performing wind farms since its 47 Suzlon wind turbines were switched on back in 2008, producing 345GWh per annum. Snowtown II is made up of 90 3MW Siemens turbines – the German engineering giant’s cutting edge direct drive technology, which was showcased on Sunday by Australian Tour de France champion Cadel Evans, who scaled one of 80 metre high structures. https://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/business-spectator/news-story/facaf8f2cb4b27eb9dcd982739b7f89b AGL scraps current Hallett wind farm proposal
AGL Energy will not proceed with its Hallett 3 wind farm proposal in its current form, but will pursue a new proposal to incorporate "more economic wind turbine technology". The 33 turbine wind farm proposal is located in mid-north South Australia near the township of Hallett. AGL prepared a planning application for the wind farm in 2008 and obtained planning consent from the local council in mid-2009. The planning consent has been under appeal before the Environment, Resources and Development (ERD) Court. The ERD Court has previously upheld the planning consent in November 2010. https://archive.ph/20120716064148/http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/8362559/new-rules-for-wind-farms-in-sa Win asia https://indaily.com.au/news/local/2016/10/05/wind-farms-contributed-to-state-wide-blackout-interim-report/
Blackout report leaves renewables debate dangling in the breeze
UPDATED: A preliminary report into South Australia’s statewide blackout has found the unprecedented outage was caused by cascading events, starting with a fierce storm cutting three major transmission lines, followed by wind farms disconnecting from the energy grid which caused a massive load spike on the interconnector to Victoria. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2008-11-02/sa-welcomes-construction-of-220m-wind-farm/190662

This page discusses matters that relate to wind-generated electricity, especially on the utility scale and as it is developing in Australia. For information on specific Australian wind farms refer either to wind farm pages on individual states (box above left) or the Wind farm index. I have aimed at facts, rather than opinions, on these pages. It is my intention to update the pages by seeking information from the wind farm proposers/owners twice a year, at the end of June and especially in December; information will also be added as I discover it. I'd be pleased to receive comment from anyone who believes that any items here are wrong or out of date (my email address is at the top of each page). Operating Australian wind farms, MegaWatts By statesAs of June 2009 – Total 1694MW Some States' pages have pie diagrams showing individual wind farmsAustralia has huge potential for wind farm development, but if that potential is to be developed governments must take a more pro-active part. Apart from the artificially low price of fossil-fuel-generated power, the greatest obstacle to the development of wind power – and sustainable power in general – is the lack of high capacity electricity transmission lines where they are needed; and governments https://www.4coffshore.com/windfarms/projet-%C3%A9olien-en-mer-de-la-baie-de-saint-brieuc-france-fr36.html https://www.bwea.com/ UK powerfull wind Get HostSquad coupon as 50% cash back. 2011, Scotland set a target of reaching 100% clean electricity consumption in 2020. And last year, the country almost reached its target – 98.6% of gross electricity consumption came from renewable sources, according to the Scottish government’s December energy statement. https://www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/news/scotland-wind-energy-renewable-power-electricity-wwf-scotland-a7183006.html Green power indepartmant https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-56530424 Win BBC news Scotland has narrowly missed a target to generate the equivalent of 100% of its electricity demand from renewables in 2020.
New figures reveal it reached 97.4% from renewable sources.
This target was set in 2011, when renewable technologies generated just 37% of national demand.
Industry body Scottish Renewables said output had tripled in the last 10 years, with enough power for the equivalent of seven million households. https://wwindea.org/ World win
